2008 "European Young Scientist" Award

The European Frequency and Time Forum (E.F.T.F.) has triggered creation of the “European Young Scientist Award” whose goal is to recognize a personal contribution showing a high degree of initiative and creativity for a person under the age of 40 at the date of the conference opening session. The work of the young scientist should lead to already established or easily foreseeable outstanding advances in terms of time and frequency metrological performance. A prerequisite is that the work to be taken into consideration has been published in the proceedings of the E.F.T.F. or the IEEE Frequency control Symposium.

The award is attributed by the E.F.T.F. executive committee.

The goal of the award is to encourage scientific effort and competition but also to promote recognition of young brilliant scientist in the field.

Nominations:

Nominations should be submitted to Michel BRUNET, Young Scientist Award Chair, eftfyoungscientist@eftf08.com

Each nomination should include a short résumé of the candidate together with the description of accomplishments and reasons for nominations (1 or 2 pages in total). A list of publications should be added. Deadline for submission 28 February 2008.

2008 Student contest Award

For the first year, the EFTF Scientific Committee in conjunction with the Organisation Committee have introduced the EFTF student contest awards

Student must be the lead author and present the paper. A poster presentation is required for the selected authors, which will be in addition to any oral presentation. The finalist's papers will be on display in a specific location in the Poster Session area.

One winner will be selected in each group by an evaluation board. The evaluation will be based on the following criteria:

(1)     clarity of student's presentation

(2)     depth of student's knowledge

(3)     degree of student's contribution to the project

(4)     relevancy of the work of the field

Groups are the following :

Group A (Thematics 1 + 4) : "Materials, Resonators, filters, sensors and transducers"

Group B (Thematic 2) : "Oscillators, synthesizers and circuit techniques"

Group C (Thematics 3 + 6) : "Microwave and Optical atomic frequency standards, and, applications"

Group D (Thematic 5) : "Timekeeping, time and frequency transfer, GNSS and applications"

The laureates will receive an award and a certificate. The awards are attributed by the EFTF 2008 Organization Committee.

The Student Contest Awards Chair is Gilles CIBIEL : studentaward@eftf08.com

2008 "European Frequency and Time" Award

The European Frequency and Time Forum (EFTF) have triggered creation of the "European Frequency and Time Award" whose goal is to recognize outstanding contributions in all the fields covered by the E.F.T.F.

The award consists of 1500 Euros and a limited edition original print and certificate. The award has been attributed nearly every two years period of time starting in 1993 by the Société Française de Chronométrie (said Société Française des Microtechniques et de Chronométrie).

It was attributed in 2006 by the Helmholtz Fonds e.V. for the advancement of science and research on the field of physical and technical precision measurements and again by the Société Chronométrique de France in 2007.

The award is open to any scientist working in the fields traditionally associated with the EFTF The goal is to encourage scientific effort and competition. The award recognizes exceptional contributions providing worldwide recognition in the Community either for fundamental advances or important applications. The significance of contributions includes degree of initiative and creativity, quality of work, degree of success obtained as well as worldwide scientific impact on “Time and Frequency Community”.

Nominations:

Anyone in the community may nominate anyone. Nominations should include a short résumé of the candidate together with description of accomplishments, reasons for nominations and a citation (2 or 3 pages in total). Deadline for submission: 7 March 2008.

Nominations should be submitted to the EFTF Scientific Committee Chair, Giorgio Santarelli eftfaward2008@eftf08.com
